Aural Mural Music (AMM) was started in 1986 by marc ostermeier and myself (robert e mace) as a vehicle to release our home-made cassette of electronic music: echolalia. The name (aural mural) comes from a reviewed description of Steve Reich's music (which marc and I also used as an early musical moniker.) After marc left New Mexico in 1987, the label grew to include other electronic projects involving me (echolalia with a new lineup, memento mori) and marc's new project 'shiFt.' With a small 'scene' starting in Socorro facilitated by an electronic music lab at New Mexico Tech and Amm, Amm began to release cassettes by other Socorro electronic musicians. Going statewide, Amm released a sampler of New Mexico (what is now called....) alternative music and cassettes by several New Mexico acts. In 1992, Amm (and I) moved to Austin where a couple more cassettes were released (and a compilation attempted) before Amm folded in 1993 and whirlingpool took its place with its first release in 1997. This site is meant as a document of Amm activities and Socorro music during these years.

Information about the label and its releases are organized sequentially and include info (if any?) about the whereabouts and whatdoings of former members. For selected acts (echolalia and memento mori) with more of a history, special pages are provided. whirlingpool is considering a few home-burned cd releases to document this material. I also hope to post mp3s of some of this stuff at mp3.com in the near future. Enjoy!
