Goll-dang! Has it really been six months since I last wrote about my little car? Well, the little car ain't done yet, but I have been making some progress. My bud Bruce Fullerton and I searched and searched for someone to do the body work and we found the crew at Classic Auto Works west of Austin. Mike Shambarger does a lot of custom work and was speaking our language when we talked with him about our cars. Plus he didn't try to hacksaw one of my arms and one of my legs for compensation (at least not yet...). Because Bruce's car was in better initial shape, Mike and his able assistant Aaron beat, molded, and painted his car first. That way he could take a gander at Bruce's car to see what mine was supposed to look like. Mike was about finished with Bruce's car at the end of December and has just started working on mine (see photos to the right). It's almost surreal to see the little booger actually getting worked on after all this time. I trust Mike will do a great job because he sure did a great job with Bruce's car. Bruce is having his car painted yellow, and mine will be green. Our cars together will be lemon-lime. The Central Texas Micronuts held its second car show in November and I decided to show my 'naked' Isetta. I'm beginning to think that maybe I should just leave the body off the car 'cause folks really like seeing beneath the skin. If you are working on your Isetta, do not hesitate to take it to a show with nothing on (the car: not you). My little egg even won a prize for the best Other-Other category! My favorite moment of the show was when a couple strolled into the middle of the show, stopped, and looked around. The lady turned to her friend and said: "Jim: It appears we've stumbled upon a microcar convention." In other news, we bought a big bubble in the shape of a VW New Beetle. Not a bubble in size but a bubble in heart... Well, that's all for now. You will be seeing some amazing progress over the next few months. With the national microcar show in Texas in 2002, I plan to bring the little egg for show and tell. Until next time!
